Our regular show this month brings a special holiday twist with guest performances by Celeste\, Noa Micaela Fields\, and your hostess\, Joss Barton. The show will follow a community open mic by audience members. \n\nDoors 7PM\nOpen Mic 8PM\nPerformances 9PM\n\n\nÁle Campos (Celeste)\n\nÁle Campos aka Celeste is a multidisciplinary artist and performance maker whose elastic studio\npractice is anchored in the vernacular of drag. They generate live performance works that are often\nrhapsodic and mediated by technology\, unfolding from and into the mediums of sculpture\, sound\, text\,\nvideo and installation. Their work dissects perception\, queer relationality\, self-imagination and the\nmechanics of drag itself. They perform and present work across various contexts\, merging the borders\nbetween the art world and queer nightlife. \n\nNoa Micaela Fields (Nomi)\n\nNoa Micaela Fields aka Nomi is an echodeviant enjambment queen (trans poet with hearing aids). She\ncurates readings at the Poetry Foundation\, edits for Chrysalis (a trans youth literary magazine)\, and\ndisemvowels on dance floors. Her debut collection (poetry\, not fashion\, but not not fashion) E is out\nnext month from Nightboat Books.

Our regular show this month will close off the literary weekend with special performances following an audience open mic. \n\n\n\nHost: Joss Barton \n\n\n\nFeatured Artist: Joy Guidry \n\n\n\n\nDoors 7PM\n\n\n\nOpen Mic 8PM\n\n\n\nPerformances 9PM\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoy Guidry\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoy Guidry is a bassoonist\, versatile improviser\, performance artist\, and composer of experimental\, daring new works that embody a deep love of storytelling; Joy’s music channels her inner child in honor of their ancestors and predecessors. The San Diego Tribune has hailed her performances as “lyrical and haunting…hair-raising and unsettling.” \n\n\n\nJoy was born in Houston\, Texas\, into a creative family that has shaped who she is today. Joy has presented her original work at The Whitney Museum for American Art\, Hauser & Wirth\, Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego\, The Kitchen\, Redcat\, among many other venues. She has been commissioned by The National Sawdust\, Long Beach Opera\, JACK Quartet\, Gaudeamus Festival\, and the I&I Foundation. Joy has been featured in festivals\, including the La Biennale di Venezia\, A’Larme Festival\, Cologne Jazz Week\, Spoleto Festival USA\, Big Ears Festival\, and many more. \n\n\n\nJoy holds a bachelor’s degree in Bassoon Performance from the Peabody Conservatory and a Graduate Performance Diploma from the Mannes School of Music. In addition\, Joy Guidry is the winner of the 2021 Berlin Prize for Young Artists. She Is currently playing on a Heckel Bassoon number 6101.

The gorgeous and gifted Dutchesz Gemini is a Chicago based drag and performance artist\, DJ\, and event host. Her nectareous and high drama presentations take inspiration from ballroom and the worldwide queer underground\, with music selections informed by Chicago house\, techno\, queer hip hop and club bangers. Dutchesz is a resident host/collaborator with Diamond Formation at Smartbar\, CLUBWIVES\, the collective LowVisibility\, and the party and collaboration series RUMORS. \n\n\n\n\n\nOdette Stout\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nOdette Stout is an artist and drag performer whose experimental costumes are a staple in Chicago underground nightlife. They stage intermedia performances that cast collaborating artists as otherworldly living artworks\, called on to help tell stories from spaces where self-creation is a survival art practice. Their runway events synthesize fashion\, digital installation\, dance\, drag and poetry and are designed to catalyze an ever-present possibility of transformation. Their unique handmade silicone wearables\, often augmented reality responsive\, are lended out of their studio to local performers and artists. These wearables are documented through their many lives and uses as they gradually degrade and vanish into underground lore.

Emceeing/producing Black LGBTQIA events\, Mixology\, Plus Size Styling\, Dance (both exotic and traditional) teachings carries Lynzo across the stages of Chicago\, Los Angeles\, & London\, England. Chicago’s Big Titty Heartbreaker! \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJack is a 25 year old transsexual woman who has lived in Chicago since 2023. Like her trans woman fam\, she is interested in story telling\, whores\, and trans identity formation through experiences of medicalization & violence.  \n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nJoss Barton is a writer\, journalist\, and spoken word performance artist exploring and documenting queer and trans* life\, love\, and liberation. Her work blends femme-fever dreams over the soundtrack of the American nightmare. Combining prose poetry\, non-fiction confessional essays\, drag artistry\, and spoken word stage performances\, Joss examines the myriad states of queer trans womanhoods from historical\, political\, and pop cultural identities of death\, desires\, dreams\, and disco.

Her work operates in a multitude of formats\, mediums\, and presentations of persona to build engagement through virtual and physical aspects of virtual world construction. Ava utilizes video game engines\, live performance\, installations\, sculptures\, video\, and body to process components of the self through modalities of becoming. She investigates aspects of performing for the camera\, mirrors\, and virtual reconstructions of the body through 3D scanning\, avatar creation\, and virtual environment building as a means to craft a voice that speaks towards collapsed temporalities\, archiving the body\, as well as potentials of future self. Much of Ava’s work is also in conversation with aspects of fetishization of the consumed body through media depictions and how persona is framed through technology. In her primary approaches\, she aims to confront the voyeur as well as communicate the complexities of trans narratives through hyper-sexualized imagery and performance. \n\n\n\nAva received her Masters Degree in Fine Arts at the School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 2019. Alongside her art practice and community engagement\, she has been an educator at multiple art institutions for the last 4 years. She is a recipient of 3Arts New Wave Artists Award\, and has been a resident of ACRE Artist residency as well as New Art City Residency. Her most current work has shown at Roots and Culture Contemporary Art Gallery in Chicago and is now being shown in a 6 month solo exhibition at the Madison Museum of Contemporary Art. Wanbli has also been published in Tone Magazine as well as curated events at Mana Contemporary in Chicago. Ava continues to organize and build spaces to further her commitment to the conversations around her transwoman body and the voice that it can hold to educate\, uplift\, and complicate narratives around selfhood through hyper-visibility and fetishization.

They are a social worker\, a cultural critic—at least in their mind—\, a home cook\, a lover\, a slut\, possibly a writer\, and a fat dark skin being trying to live and love and help make a better world than the one we’ve been asked to live in.
