A screening, reading & conversation
This multi-media program looks at the legacy of the Black Arts Movement (BAM) in Chicago as part of the opening weekend of the Of Poetry and Protest exhibit, looking back at the history of Chicago’s BAM and reflecting on the artists and institutions that have extended its impact in the decades since the BAM was at its height in the city. Prof. Thabiti Lewis of Washington State University Vancouver will screen the in-progress documentary film BAM! Chicago’s Black Arts Movement he is co-directing with Prof. Pavithra Narayanan, and Of Poetry and Protest Co-Editor/Guild Founding Director Michael Warr, along with some Special Guests, will read poetry and conduct a public conversation about how the legacy of the BAM lives on in Chicago.
