Fall Is In The Air

If the calendar didn’t tell you, the cool, crisp air has definitely signaled that Autumn has arrived. And with that fall weather comes another month of “cool” programming from the Guild Literary Complex, if you forgive us the pun.

This month’s Palabra Pura is curated by Cynthia Pelayo and features readings by Diana Pando and Adriana Galvan on a very October-appropriate theme: Memory and Ghosts. This month’s readings address cultural ideas of life and death in a celebration of autumn. Here, words will welcome memory and ghosts.

Palabura Pura is from 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. October 21, at our usual home, La Bruquena Restaurant, 2726 W. Division in Humboldt Park.

Late last month the Guild announced we are accepting submissions for our annual Prose Awards! Every fall, the Guild Complex acknowledges emerging and established writers via a judged competition and recognition event at the historic Chopin Theatre in Chicago. A cash prize of $500 in each category (fiction and non-fiction) will be awarded. This year’s guest judges are Anne Calcagno (fiction) and S.L. Wisenberg (non-fiction). The deadline to submit is 5 p.m. October 22. For more about submission guidelines and other details, head to the Guild’s website.
