Guild Literary Complex

With February being a month for love, we’ve got a tonic for you lovers of Chicago literature. Let’s just call it a love potion—a match made in heaven: The Guild Lit Complex is excited to be partnering with Columbia College for Story Week 2014. Our new-found relationship is blossoming with events to celebrate Chicago’s diverse neighborhoods with readings, workshops, and celebrations happening all over the city.

On Saturday, February 15, City Lit Books will host 7Vientos Workshop, Dramaturgy of the Body with Rey Andújar, whose work links movement, theatre, and writing. Writers, actors, and dancers alike will not want to miss this one-of-a-kind chance to work with this award-winning writer and dramaturgist.

February’s Palabra Pura has been curated by Teresa Vasquez-Hall, who has gathered a bold group of writers—Lucrecia Guerrero, Emmanuel Ortiz, Elizabeth Marino and Paul Martínez-Pompa—to present authentic voices that address the complexities of being a, “21st century Latin@.”

Our final February event is not to be missed. Chicago Urban Arts Society will host a very special book launch party for Mario Bellatin, a celebrated Mexican novelist whose works have earned him a Guggenheim Grant and National Book Award Sponsored by Municipal Institute of Culture, Tourism and Art of Mazatlan. Alongside Bellatin’s readings, this free event will include art installations by Christian Saucedo and a performance by Laboratory Dancers.

We can’t wait to see you this month—just the thought makes our hearts flutter.
