We are honored to be kicking off our year-end fundraising drive with the help of authors Chris Abani, Garnett Kilberg Cohen, Stuart Dybek, Aleksandar Hemon, Alex Kotlowitz, Achy Obejas, Ed Roberson, Sharon Solwitz & Barry Silesky, Mark Turcotte, and Scott Turow—all of whom have contributed to a special Authors’ Challenge Grant!

Every dollar donated to the Guild by Saturday, November 15—up to $2500—will be matched dollar-for-dollar by some of the most respected, hard working authors in Chicago.

Call-out-Quote_1Wow! That’s a true community endeavor. Will you answer their challenge and join the community of literary lovers, among them Stuart Dybek, choosing to “put back in” to the Guild?

2014 has been our 25th anniversary year, and we’ve been busy. Looking at the last 12 months we have:

  • produced over 40 programs
  • showcased more than 280 artists
  • engaged a total audience that surpasses 3700 people
  • presented in 18 of Chicago’s 50 wards

In 2014, we programmed Spanish-language literary events for StoryWeek, hosted exiled authors from the Middle East, produced the second annual Brooksday in celebration of Gwendolyn Brooks, developed a new play, awarded cash prizes to emerging poets and prose writers, and even represented Chicago at a festival of literature and freedom of expression in Norway!

To succeed, we’ve relied on the support of many. And as we plan exciting cross-cultural programs for 2015—nearly all of them free to the public—we ask you to support the Guild Complex with a tax-deductible donation.

You can donate instantly via PayPal by clicking the “donate today” button.

Because of the Authors’ Challenge Grant, your donation can be doubled whether you give $25 or $2500 (or even $1 or $5). Any gift amount will enter you into a weekly drawing to receive two (2) tickets to hear Guild Complex Director John Rich interview Colm Tóibín on November 9. And if you give at least $50, you will be entered in a drawing to win a signed copy of a book by one of our Authors’ Challenge Grant writers!*

Please join these generous writers listed above and make a gift to the Guild Complex. And make it by November 15 to double the impact of your donation! All gift levels contribute to the Guild’s capacity to be a vibrant force on Chicago’s literary scene.

Thank you for your support—and for being a champion of provocative and eclectic literary programs that support and promote diverse, divergent, and emerging voices!

*Drawings for Colm Tóibín tickets will be held at 12pm CST on: October 24, 2014; October 31, 2014; and November 6, 2014. Drawings for signed books will be held after November 15, 2014. Winners will be notified by email or phone.
